Well, we won Best Hair Salon

We went to the Scottish Hair & Beauty Awards (SHABAs) hoping for a good night out.

We came home as Best Hair Salon in Scotland.

Which is still a slightly ridiculous sentence to type.

The SHABAs bring together salons, stylists and beauty professionals from across Scotland, so to hear Muse called out as the winner of Best Hair Salon was a pretty special moment.

But what made it particularly meaningful to us is everything that came before it.

A salon that’s been here since 1960

Our family has been cutting hair from the same spot on Ferry Road since 1960.

Muse is now a third-generation family business, and over those years the salon has changed names, changed faces and seen an awful lot of hair come through the door.

There’s been a lot of sweeping, plenty of coffee and more than a few brooms along the way.

But the important stuff hasn’t changed much.

We want to do brilliant hair. We want people to feel comfortable when they walk through the door. We want our team to keep learning, questioning and getting better at what they do.

And we’d quite like everyone to enjoy themselves while they’re here.

So winning Best Hair Salon doesn’t suddenly make us a good salon.

For us, it feels more like recognition of something that has been quietly built here for more than six decades.

A very good night for Muse

It wasn’t just the salon that was recognised either.

Amanda was shortlisted for Best Female Colourist and Best Female Stylist, while Mac was a finalist for Best Hair Extensionist.

Seeing individual members of our team recognised alongside the salon made us incredibly proud.

Because ultimately, a salon isn’t a room full of nice mirrors and expensive scissors.

It’s people.

It’s thousands of consultations, colours, haircuts, cups of coffee, conversations and small details that nobody outside the industry ever really sees.

This award belongs to the people who put that work in every day.

And to our clients…

Thank you.

Some of you have been coming to us for years. Some of you have brought your children, your parents and occasionally half your family.

You’ve recommended us, reviewed us, supported us and trusted us with your hair.

A salon doesn’t make it to 66 years without that.

So we’ll allow ourselves to enjoy this one.
